Saturday Stitch Club | Monthly Sewing Club | Age 7+

£25.00

Our Stitch Clubs have proven so popular that we now have a monthly sewing club on a Saturday morning.

Our Saturday Stitch Club is open to children age 7 - 17 and is recommended for those children that can't make it after school, due to other commitments or location.   If you are available during the week, please consider our after school Stitch Clubs.

Please note that availability for this club will come on a first come, first serve basis & you will need to book your child in monthly to reserve their spot.

Our upcoming stitch club sessions:

Saturday 17th February 2024, 10am - 12:30pm - PJ Bottoms (session 2/2)

Saturday 2nd March 2024, 10am -12:30pm Sew a Mother's Day Gift (1 session)

You will need 1/2 metre plain green fabric & 2x or 3x complimentary fat quarters (or 1/4 of metres) all in cotton fabric.  This is to sew a surprise for our mums so we won't tell you what we're making until after the club.

Sat 13th April 2024, 10am - 12:30pm (1/4 sessions) - Patchwork, roll up picnic blanket.  session 1: sewing patchwork squares together
Sat 4th May 2024, 10am -12:30pm (2/4 sessions) - Patchwork, roll up picnic blanket.  session 2: Finish sewing patchwork squares together & start pinning & tacking quilt together.
Sat 1st June 2024, 10am -12:30pm (3/4 sessions) - Patchwork, roll up picnic blanket.  session 3:  Pinning, tacking and stitching quilt together.
Sat 6th July 2024, 10am -12:30pm (4/4 sessions) - Patchwork, roll up picnic blanket.  session 4:   Finishing stitching quilt together, binding the edges & attaching ties for roll up.

We have grouped the next four sessions of Stitch Club together as we would like to focus on a larger project to create a patchwork, roll-up picnic blanket.   We are aiming that we will need all four sessions to complete this project but if we finish early then we have some other lovely ideas to create including bum bag, drinks bottle holder & backpack.

For your picnic blanket you will need - At least 36x squares measuring 15x15cm you can purchase these in charm packs or jelly rolls or cut your own 15x15cm squares from pre-bought material.  You will also need 1 metre of wadding, 1 metre of a plain cotton fabric for lining and 5 metres of bias binding.   You do not need to get all of this all at once, as at least the first (and possibly second session) will be sewing the squares together.   We would appreciate if you could bring pre-cut squares though.

What does stitch club involve?

The club teaches children how to sew using a sewing machine.  We may well do hand sewing from time to time but the majority of the sessions will involve using a machine.

Sewing machines are provided, as is all equipment.  If your child has a sewing machine, we do suggest them bringing it with them if possible so they can learn on their own machine.

**Please note materials are not included in the cost, you will be asked to provide these as additional. Upon booking you will be notified of what materials you will need for each session. **

You have the option at each session to undertake the set project for that month or you can bring your own project in from home and have assistance on this.

How does the sewing club work?

We ask for children age 7+ to attend, as they can come without the need for a parent/guardian to supervise. A parent/guardian is welcome to stay for the session/s if they feel necessary but please notify us beforehand.  Our craft tutor is fully insured, first aid qualified and DBS checked and can provide copies of the same should you require them.

Minimum/maximum numbers

There are a maximum of 8 places on each session, a minimum of 2 attendees must be booked on in order for this session to run. Please book your child's space.  Spaces come on a first come, first serve basis.

Please note we do ask all new attendees joining the club to undertake our beginners sewing workshop or a minimum of an hour one to one sewing lesson, in order to teach them the basics of using a sewing machine before they start.  Please bear in mind both the sewing workshop and lesson will be chargeable.
